White Marlin Open - Ocean City, MD The World's Largest Billfishing Tournament
Anyone may enter the White Marlin Open. The tournament is structured for boats of all sizes, and anglers of all abilities. It offers flexible schedules, and allows for a wide range of budgets. Anglers have the freedom to choose their fishing days and enter at levels best suiting their perceived skills, and capabilities.
Not very experienced? You can still compete and win! Just ask Doug Remsberg, who caught his first billfish during the 2003 White Marlin Open. His 78.5-pound white marlin was worth $1,300,000! Over the past 30 years, a number of novice anglers have won the top prizes in the tournament. You will need a good captain and mate to get you to the fish. So if you are thinking about putting a group together to fish the tournament, you should start looking early for a charter boat with an experienced crew. Sign Up for the White Marlin Open General Entry Guidelines 1. Anyone may fish in the 34th Annual White Marlin Open, August 6-10, 2007 2. To enter, you must either; (a) officially register a boat, and/or (b) be registered as an angler on an officially registered boat, prior to fishing. 3. The base entry fee is $950 per boat before June 1st, $1000 after June 1st. There is no limit on the number of anglers that can registered with a boat. That entry entitles the anglers to compete for a guaranteed $50,000 in prize money. After the boat is officially entered in the tournament, the anglers have the option of entering their boat in the added skill levels. Entry fees for the added skill levels will be taken at the late registration. No added entries will be taken or refunded after Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007. 4. The entry fee should be mailed in advance using the entry form found in the tournament brochure. You need not fill in all of the angler and crew information to register a boat by mail. Additional information can be completed at the late registration on August 4 & 5 at Harbour Island Marina in Ocean City, MD. 5. The is no minimum or maximum length restrictions on boat size 6. An angler, or boat need only fish one of the three days to be eligible for prizes. 7. Unless otherwise arranged prior to the awards ceremony, the White Marlin Open will award any winnings directly to the registered angler catching the winning fish. The White Marlin Open will alter the distribution only upon the written request from the winning angler.
