Calleva Outdoor Adventures is a great place to make lasting memories and life long friendships. It started approximately 15 years ago by 3 brothers Matt, Dave, and Alex Markoff. Beginning as a fundraiser, Calleva has become one of the most well known Adventure Organizations.
The annual "Markoff Haunted Forest" in Dickerson, Maryland is the fundraiser that began Calleva. This event gathers thousands of locals each year. This really helped Calleva jump to great start.
Calleva owns over 160 acres of not just flat land, but rivers, forests, mountains and more. From leadership camps to parties, Calleva inspires self-esteem, confidence, and leadership skills to all. Activities that Calleva offers consist of horseback riding, winter ski trips, White-water rafting, mountain biking, surfing, fishing, kayaking, sailing, obstacle courses, and more. What makes Calleva so great is that it's a non-profit organization, meaning that the money being received for the activities, camps, etc., founds directly back into Calleva making it a better organization year after year.
Throughout the years, Calleva has evolved in many ways. By word of mouth the advertisement for Calleva takes care of itself. Just recently Calleva starting entertaining parties, whether it is a school program, a birthday party, or just a group of friends. The friendly Calleva staff is directed to making your experience an unforgettable one.
Calleva Riding
Ever been interested in horseback riding? Calleva offers many riding opportunities. Providing over 20 well-trained horses, the Calleva Equestrian Education Program is a great way to learn how to ride and become comfortable and confident with horsemanship. Summer camps are broken into 4 groups determining skill. Lessons for improvement are available to fit your schedule. Also offered is trail rides and birthday parties. The trail rides are about 3 hours long and include tacking, grooming, and short arena warm – ups. Birthday parties are extremely popular and a great way to have fun while riding. If you have your own horse, Calleva offers boarding and if you are interested in owning a horse, Calleva provides leasing.
Calleva Whitewater Rafting
Do you enjoy adventure on the water? Calleva presents Whitewater rafter lessons every Sunday from 10am – 2pm to everyone. Calleva provides rafts, helmets, life jackets, paddles, and lunch for those who are looking to learn water safety and rafting techniques. Calleva also offers a II-III class section right on the Potomac River. These classes meet in the Old Angler’s Inn parking lot every Sunday. To sign up go to www.calleva.org.
Snow Camp
Every Friday Calleva sends a group of boarders and skiers to the slopes for a day of snow. Whether it be the winter season or spring break, the Calleva staff is ready to show you a great time. Summer skiing is also available. Call Calleva for details at 301-216-1248
Leadership School
Calleva's Leadership School inspires confidence and high self-esteem through techniques which require learning about themselves and the environment. The activities that the Leadership School offers takes anywhere between 5-8 days. Prices are availably online.
Explorer Camp
This camp is designed for children between the ages of 6 and 9. Explorer Camp is how Calleva introduces the outdoors to children by taking part in activities such as Canoeing, Climbing, Horseback riding, Kayaking, Arts & Crafts, Fishing, and Field Games. This camp if offered at the Riley’s Lock location. Available weeks are June 9th – August 29th.
Activity Camp
This camp is designed for campers whose ages fall between 9-15. Campers are placed in a group of 12 and led by the Activity Instructor and a Group Counselor. Thursday is the only overnight day. Activities in this camp include Caving, Rafting, Surfing, Sailing, Fishing, Climbing, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Horseback Riding, River Ecology, Trail Riding, Backpacking, and more.
