Washington DC Online Community (WDCOC)  was established in 1992. The network started at first as DC Message Boards running on NIH servers. In 1994, Ari.net MyHouse, DCpages, DC Music Web, DC Dining Web joined the network. In 1996 Infohall, Digital City, DC Registry joined the DC Online Community. In 1997, The Monthly Buzz, DC Social Insider, joined the network. In 1998, Washington DC Online Community had their first Web Master Social at a CyberCafe in Georgetown. Artists, Musicians, Programmers performed and had fun. DC Orbitz attended the social and the Washington DC Online Community became its local marketing partner.  In 1998, DC Email, District of Columbia Government, DC Image Gallery, DC Chamber of Commerce joined the network. As of 2008 there are over 35,000 members and that have shared over and estimated billion plus pages of content. This number is growing at a high exponential rate.

The mission of the Washington DC Online Community is to create an online environment to find contacts, connections, answers, and expertise on topics that will help our community as a whole. Locate and connect local organizations a the Talk-the-Talk group, and meet face-to-face at Washington DC Online events.

Washington DC City Pages, usually referred to as DCpages, is the official WDCOC community publication founded in 1994. DCpages introduced the concept of online community publications in the Washington DC metropolitan area, and celebrated its 10th anniversary on January 1, 2004. DCpages lists members blogs, discussions, media, and contact information. The public can view new, updated, and popular articles, topics, and listings.
